Abbot's Court, Dorset: Ben + Ayako's Japanese-English fusion Wedding.
Ben and Akayo’s Wedding was everythinggggg. Set at the stunning Abbot’s Court, Dorset in the height of summer, I knew from the moment I arrived that this day was going to be something special.
With Ben originally from England and Ayako from Japan, their wedding was a gorgeous fusion of English and Japanese traditions, making for a truly unique celebration.
The day began with groom prep in the morning. I started by capturing Ben and his groomsmen at Almer Manor, just a short five-minute drive from Abbot’s Court. Afterward, I headed over to Ayako’s suite to document her getting ready. Her nieces were sooo adorable, and we captured so many sweet moments with them.
For their ceremony, Ben and Ayako chose the Walled Garden, which was in full bloom—an absolute dream setting for an outdoor wedding. I love photographing outdoor ceremonies; the freedom to move around and capture every angle without being intrusive, combined with the soft, natural light is unmatched.
After confetti, cocktail hour and group photos, Ben and Ayako kicked off the wedding breakfast by smashing a sake barrel, a traditional moment in japanese weddings. This was such a special moment, reflecting the perfect blend of their cultures. The speeches were heartfelt and memorable—Ben gave part of his speech in Japanese for Ayako, and Ayako’s father spoke in English to the guests. It was SUCH a touching display of love and connection between their families.
Thank you so much, Ben and Ayako, for allowing me to be part of your beautiful day. It was truly an honour to capture your love story!
